  • Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology

  • I am a Professor of Human Anatomy at the Delta State University, Abraka since April, 2003, first as a visiting Professor from the University of Malawi, Blantyre, Malawi where I became a Full Professor of Anatomy in the College of Medicine in October, 2000. I had previously worked at the University of Port-Harcourt from 1986 to 1998 and rose from the position of lecturer grade II to senior lecturer in Human Anatomy in 1993. I was also an Associate Professor of Human Anatomy in a visiting capacity at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Mbarara, Uganda from 1995 to 1997. I was subsequently appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Anatomy, College of Medicine, University of Malawi in 1998 and became a full Professor in the same University in October, 2000. Academically, I currently have one hundred and thirty-four (134) full publications in local, national and international journals. I have seventy-three (73) published abstracts in local and international conferences, eight (8) textbooks in Human Anatomy and thirteen (13) chapters in another four textbooks. I have supervised fifteen (15) Ph.D. students in Human Anatomy till date. Administratively, I have served as Head of Department in all the Universities I have worked and was also the Dean of Medical School in Malawi before joining the services of Delta State University in January, 2005. I have served in different capacities at Delta State University, Abraka; as Provost, College of Health Sciences, from October, 2006 to October, 2010 and Provost, Asaba campus (Administrative Head of the campus and Principal Officer of the University) from January 2011 to December, 2014. Similarly, I have served continuously as a member of the University Governing Council of Delta State University from July 2005 to December, 2014. I am currently a Professor of Neuroanatomy, Forensic and physical Anthropology with expertise in fingerprint and dermatoglyphic analysis. I have studied the dermatoglyphic patterns of people in the sub-Saharan region including Malawians, Kenyans and Nigerians; both the qualitative (fingerprints) and quantitative variables (a-b ridge counts, atd angles, total finger ridge counts). In addition to fingerprints, I have studied the palmar crease and plantar indexes which can also be used in forensic identification, prediction of genetically linked diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and schizophrenia as well as predicting criminal traits.
