  • Prof. Christian Ewhrudjakpor had his B.Sc. (Hons.) Second Class (Upper Division) and M.Sc. (with Distinction) Degrees in Psychology and Clinical Psychology in 1986 and 1988 respectively from the University of Ibadan. He was employed as an Assistant Lecturer in 1993 in the Department of Sociology & Psychology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Sociology (Specializing in Health and Illness Behaviour) from the Delta State University, Abraka in 2004 and rose to the position of Professor of Sociology (Health and Illness Behaviour) in 2010. He is an expert in the Sociology of Health and Illness. An area of speciality that concerns the broad social dimensions of health and illness covering the varied cultural conceptualisation of health and illness behaviour of people, their measurements: morbidity and mortality statistics, and epidemiological explanation of patterns of disease, health and illness. Since he joined Delta State University in 1993, he has held several administrative positions such as: Head of Department of Sociology & Psychology (2009-2010 & 2014-2015), Director, Weekend Degree Programmes (2005-2009), Director, Continuing Education Programmes, (2010-2011), Director, Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Programme (March 2019-July 2020), Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences (2011-2016 & 2016-2018), Dean, Postgraduate School (August 2019-March, 2020), Chairman, TETfund Conference and Workshop committee (2016-2020), Member, Governing Council of Delta State University (2014-2018), Member, Governing Council of Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu (2010-2015), Member, Governing Council of National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi – Edo State (2017-2020). He was a member of several University Standing Committees and Boards such as Appointment and Promotions Committee (2014-2018), Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee (2016-2018), Member, Selection Committee of Bursar, Registrar and Librarian of National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi-Edo State, Member (June, 2020), Board of Directors of Delta State University Investment Limited (2004-2006 & 2019-2021). He was Editor-In-Chief of several National and International journals, such as: Editor-In-Chief, Journal of Social and Management Sciences (2014-2018), Editor-In-Chief, Journal of Social Policy and Society (2004-2006), Editor, International Journal of Sociology & Anthropology (2004-2008), Co-Editor, Perspectives in Sociology and Psychology: A Book of Reading. A Book of Reading (Volume 1, June 2009) A publication of Faculty of the Social Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka. In furtherance of his academic activities, he has assessed academic colleagues to the status of Readers (Associate Professors) and Professors in several universities such as: University of Uyo, Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, Benue State University, Makurdi, Salem University, Lokoja. Also, since 2012 he has being participating as chairman or member in several National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation ad-hoc panels to Private, State and Federal government owned universities such as Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State; Crawford University, Igbosa, Ogun State; Caleb University, Lagos State; Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State; Mkar University, Mkar, Benue State; Benue State University, Makurdi, Benue State; Ebonyi State University; University of Abuja, Abuja; Police Academy Wudil, Kano State; University of Port Harcourt; University of Uyo; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to mention a few. Apart from teaching several courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he has supervised over 40 M.Sc. and Ph.D. Dissertations and Theses. He is a member of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association, Member, British Sociological Association, United Kingdom, Member, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, Member, International Research and Development Institute and Fellow, Chartered Institute of Administrators of Nigeria. In addition to attending over 20 National and International conferences and workshops, he has published over 60 articles in National and International journals, and co-authored a textbook on social statistics that is read widely in universities across Nigeria. His inaugural Lecture titled Diseases and Labels: Destigmatizing the Stigmatized, the 64th in the series of inaugural lectures of Delta State University, Abraka was delivered on the 30th August, 2018.
