  • A BRIEF ON PROFESSOR PETER CHUKWUYEM EGBON Peter Chukwuyem Egbon is a Professor of Economics at the Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State. He attended University of Lagos, Lagos (1976 - 1979), University of Ibadan, Ibadan (1981 - 1982) and University of Benin, Benin City (1986 - 1991) for his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Master of Science (M.Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees, respectively. All his degrees are in Economics. Professor Egbon joined the defunct Bendel State University, Ekpoma (now Ambrose Alli University) on 7th March, 1983, as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Economics and rose through the ranks to the position of a Reader in the Department of Economics of the same University (Ambrose Alli University), in October, 1993. He later joined Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State, first, as a Visiting Professor of Economics (February 8th, 1998 – November 27th, 1998) and subsequently as a tenured Professor of Economics, in the University (November 27th, 1988 – till date). Professor P. C. Egbon, who is a life member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), has published widely in both National and International scholarly Journals. He has also written and edited peer reviewed monographs and books in Economics. He has taught and researched in the following areas of Economics; Applied Econometrics, Project Analysis and Evaluation, Environmental Economics, Development Economics and Economic Theory. He has been External examiner in various Nigerian Universities, including; Department of Economics, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, 2007/2008 session; Department of Economics and statistics, University of Benin, Benin City; 2008 -2009; Department of Economics, University of Port-Harcourt (2011 - 2015) and Niger-Delta University, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State (2015 till Date). Professor Egbon has been Editor, Associate Editor/Assessor (External) to various bodies, including; NCEMA Policy Analysis Series (1993 - 1998). Journal of Economic Management (1993 - 1998); The Nigerian Journal of Economics and Social Studies (Assessor); West African Journal of Monetary and Economic Integration (Assessor, 2006 - 2008); Central Bank of Nigeria Research and Statistics Department; Economic and Financial Review (2005 - 2008). He has held administrative and Management positions in the University including; Deputy Vice-chancellor – acted several times as Vice-chancellor – (8th March, 2000 – 29th November, 2004); Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (12th November, 1998 – 7th March, 2000), Acting Head, Department of Accounting and Finance, Delta State University (14th July 1998 – 20th December, 1998) and Member, Estimate Committee, Delta State University, Abraka (2000 -2004). Outside, the University, Professor Egbon has other cognate experience and responsibilities as; • Member of Governing Council and 1st Vice-President of the Institute of Planning, Nigeria (2008 – till date). A private initiative to compliment the National Planning Commission in deepening planning culture, processes and professionalism in Nigeria. • African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF/National Consultant (Full-time) to The Defunct National Centre for Economic Management and Administration (NCEMA), Ibadan (3rd July 1995 to December 31st, 1995). • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/National Consultant to NCEMA (1st March, 1999 - June, 30th, 1995). • NCEMA (now defunct) was a parastatal of the National Planning Commission charged with conducting trainings and policy researches aimed at growing human capacities, relevant in deepening economic and management planning in Nigeria. It was funded by the Federal Government and International Organisations, including UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, World Bank with ACBF as a Affiliate. NCEMA was involved in a lot of collaborative researches with international agencies and Universities. I was the Team leader on Environmental Policy Planning: a joint research between NCEMA Team and University of Bradford, United Kingdom. This effort culminated into a book entitled Egbon, P. C. And Morvarichi, B (eds)(1996): Environmental Policy Planning, NCEMA; Ibadan (187 pages). As regards Academic Distinctions/Special Awards, Prof. Egbon has some to his credit, including; • The Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) Award in appreciation of (his) contribution to the success of the 38th Annual Accountants Conference, October, 2008. • ICAN award in appreciation of (his) contribution to the success of the 37th Annual Accountants’ Conference, 2007. • Merit Award of Recognition; by St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Akumazi-Umuocha, Diocese of Ika, Anglican Communion, for (any) sterling quality humane character and contributions to the development of humanity, the church and community; 29th September, 2007. • ONU IKA NIGERIA AWARD; for Excellent service to IKA PEOPLE as SPEAKER at the 8th Ika Mma Annual Lecture, 18th August, 2007. • Fellow of Institute of Human and National Resources (FHNR), 8th April, 2006. • DELSU 2004 Sports Award: For (His) Contribution to Sports Development in Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. • African Economic Research Consortium Grant (2003); Culminating in Okoh, R. N and Egbon, P. C. (2005): Integration of Nigeria’s Rural and Urban Foodstuffs Markets, AERC, Nairobi In 2014, Prof P. C. Egbon headed a Team (including Prof. Christopher O. Orubu and Prof. Douglas Omotor) to coordinate an outsourced Policy Research in Effective Programme for Poverty Reduction in Delta State, categorized into, • Public Expenditure Review for the Education Sector • Expenditure Review for the Health Sector. • Community Needs Assessment Survey • Review of State Expenditure on the Social Protection Sector • Customer Satisfaction Survey with Citizen Report Card (CRC) • Poverty Analysis and Mapping. As regards Academic Distinctions/Special Awards, Prof. Egbon has some to his credit. He is presently a member of Academic Advisory Board of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja. Prof. P. C. Egbon, who cherishes the fellowship and goodwill of friends, is married with children.
