  • Prof. Oghenerhoro Odedede was born at Okpara Water Side, Delta State, Nigeria on 4th July, 1970. He attended Ejenavwo Primary School, Okpara Water Side from 1977 to 1982 and Owhere Grammar School Okpara Water Side from 1982 to 1988 and completed his West African Secondary School Certificate in 1988 in flying colours. He was appointed class monitor from class one to Class Four, Assistant Senior Prefect in Class Five because of his academic prowess and leadership skills. He gained admission into Delta State University, Abraka during 1992/1993 session to study Geology and graduated with a B.Sc degree (Second Class Honours, Lower Division) in Geology in 1997 and served the nation diligently under the National Youth Service Corps scheme in Akwa Ibom State in 1998. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for postgraduate study in 1999/2000 session and obtained M. Sc degree in Geology ( Sedimentology) in 2002 under the tutelage of Prof. P.M.P. Zaborski and Prof. Krzysztof Schoeneich. He obtained a Ph.D degree (2013) in Petroleum Geology from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. Prof. Odedede is a recipient of the Federal Government of Nigeria postgraduate scholarship award in 2002. His current research interest focus on reservoir heterogeneity, formation evaluation, diagenetic studies, provenance, sequence stratigraphy and palaeoenviromental reconstruction in Cretaceous – Tertiary sediments of sedimentary basins (Benue Trough, Anambra Basin and Niger Delta) in Nigeria. Prof. Odedede joined the Geology department of Delta State University, Abraka in December, 2003 as an Assistant Lecturer. Through the dint of hard work, commitment and voracious appetite for scholarship, he rose through the rank and file, being promoted to the grade of lecturer 11 in 2007, Lecturer 1 in 2010, Senior Lecturer in 2013, Associate Professor in 2016 and Professor of Geology effective 1st October, 2019 where he has been lecturing, researching and mentoring younger colleagues till date. He has over the years supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students. Many of his former students hold several distinguished positions in Federal and State Government agencies, academia, and oil industry both within Nigeria and foreign countries. Professor Odedede has held several administrative positions at the Delta State University, Abraka; Associate Dean (Students') from 2015 to March, 2020, Overseers of the Students’ Affairs Division and hold forth as the Acting Dean of Students’ from May 31st to 13th June, 2016, Liaison Officer, Association of African Universities, Accra, Ghana/Delta State University, Abraka from September, 2018 - 2020, where he served as an ambassador of the University to the apex body for higher education institutions in the continent. Prof. Odedede has attended several technical workshops on Train –the – Trainers workshops organised by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Exxon Mobil within Nigeria and Africa Research Educational Network in Lome (organised by the Association of African Universities). Member, Delta State University, Abraka delegation team to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana on students exchange programme in August, 2018. In all the positions he has served, Prof. Odedede has brought a robust experience to bear in all the assignments and leave an indelible mark of resourcefulness, excellence, innovation and lead by example. On Community Service, he has awarded scholarships to over seven indigent students of the Delta State University, Abraka under the auspices of Agbonride of Nigeria (USA Incorp.). He has published several geosciences research in high scholarly journals and lectured widely on Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology. He is a member of NMGS and NAPE. Prof. Odedede is happily married to Mrs. Joan Nkechi Odedede and the divine union is blessed with three children.
