  • John O. Ogbor is a management educator, researcher and consultant. His career in management and business education started at Sussex College of Technology (UK) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Marketing Management (1982) and at Lund University in Sweden where he obtained his M.Sc degree in Business Administration, First Class (1987) and Ph.D. degree in Management from Lund University (1990). He worked as Research Associate at Lund University, Sweden. Before joining the faculty at Delta State University in 2010, Ogbor has taught at The Jesse H. Jones School of Business, Texas Southern University. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Management on March 13, 2003. He also served as the Director for the School’s Honors’ Programme. He served as Distinguished Visiting Professor (Minority Scholar-in-Residence) at Illinois State University, Illinois, U.S.A (1999-2000). He joined American Intercontinental University, Houston, Texas, USA as Adjunct Management Professor between 2004 and 2006. He also served as faculty mentor at Northcentral University, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA where he taught and mentored doctorate students in management programs (2006-2009). In Nigeria, John Ogbor has served as External Examiner, Faculty of Management Sciences, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria (2015-2016). John Ogbor also served as an Associate Professor on Sabbatical Leave at Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, Nigeria (2017). Specifically, at Delta State University, John Ogbor has served in the following capacities: (i) Associate Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences (2015-2017); (ii) Head of Department, Department of Business Administration and Marketing (March 2011-February 2013); (iii) Head of Department, Department of Business Administration and Marketing (March 2020-present); and (iv) Member of University Senate (2011-2017; 2020-present). John Ogbor has published extensively in highly rated refereed international journals including the Journal of Management Studies (Blackwell Publishers/John Wiley and Sons, UK/USA), the Journal of Organizational Change Management (Emerald Publishing, UK) and Cross Cultural Management: An International Journal (Emerald Publishing). Recently, John Ogbor’s work: Mythicizing and Reification in Entrepreneurial Discourse: Ideology-Critique of Entrepreneurial Studies has been included among the classics in Management and Organizational Studies in a book titled “The Sociology of Organizations”. Among those featured in the book published by Sage are Karl Max, Max Weber, Chris Argyris, Mary Parker-Follett, Burns and Stalker, Fredrick Taylor, Douglas McGregor, and more. This is a privilege to be associated with the founding fathers of Management Science and Organizational Studies. John Ogbor’s areas of research include: Strategic Management; Entrepreneurship, Discourses and Praxis; Critical Theory and Management; Globalization Discourses and Management; Strategizing Corporate Culture and Organizational Leadership; Business Ethics and Corporate Governance; Diversity and Conflict Management. He has published several books in Entrepreneurship; Cross-Cultural/Comparative Management; and Business Policy and Strategic Management. His two forthcoming books are in Ethics and Corporate Governance and Diversity and Conflict Management (coming out in the fall of 2020). John Ogbor has received numerous award for his teaching, research and service, including: Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers (2002, 2003, 2004); Teacher of the Year, School of Business, Texas Southern University (2002); Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence, Illinois State University, 1999-2002; Sam Walton Fellow, Texas Southern University, 1998-2004; Regional Champion, SIFE Regional Competition, 2004; Research Grant Award: Swedish Council for Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences ( Stockholm, Sweden, 1991-1994). Ogbor has partnered with two major Fortune 500 corporations in the USA (Wal-Mart Inc. and Walgreen’s Inc.) in areas of entrepreneurship development and community-based education initiatives. John Ogbor is a member of several professional organizations, including: Academy of Management Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Management, Academy of Management (USA), International Academy of Business Disciplines (USA), American Society of Competitiveness (USA), American Society for Business and Behavioral Sciences (USA), Southwestern Federation of Administrative Disciplines (USA).
