  • Area of Specialization: Structural designs, Materials and sustainability of reinforced concrete structures
  • Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

  • Engr. Ukala Chukwuyem David is an Academic staff of the Department of Civil Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering, Oleh Campus. He obtained a MSc. Degree in Civil Engineering from Coventry University, United Kingdom as well as a B.Eng. Degree in Civil Engineering (Building and Construction Engineering) from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. He is a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). He has gathered relevant field experience in the Nigerian construction industry having worked for prestigious construction companies such as Inter-Bau Construction Company Delta State, Albercony Construction Company Ebonyi and Rivers States, Onaid Engineering and Industrial Projects Ebonyi State, and Woodville Construction Company Delta State. He has also been involved in various independent projects across the country and has consulted for D.O.O.T Engineering services, Port-Harcourt and NOECC enterprises, Asaba. His research is focused on understanding the effects of service/environmental conditions such as fire outbreaks, crude oil spillage, corrosion, temperature change etc on the structural design and short/long term performance of structural elements. His research also covers the use of locally sourced raw materials or industrial waste in the development of new and novel methods of concrete production so as to enhance properties such as reduced density, high strengths, durability and ductility. Engr Ukala Chukwuyem David has a flair for teaching and has been able to bring his industry experience and research prowess into the classroom. He teaches Design of reinforced concrete structures, design of steel structures, Civil Engineering Materials, strength of materials and structural mechanics. His lectures focus on the selection and use of civil engineering materials in the design and analysis of civil engineering structures. He is also actively involved in the supervision of undergraduate projects. He currently coordinates the Students Work Experience Programme (SWEP) of the Faculty of Engineering and is the Examination Officer of the Department of Civil Engineering.
