  • Basil Enemute Iwhiwhu is a Certified Librarian with the Librarian's Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN). The cradle of his professional career commenced on January 4th 1993 upon assumption of duties as an Academics (Assistant Librarian) at the Delta State university Library, Abraka where he served as a Cataloguer/Classifier and Head of Book Finishing unit in the Technical Services Division from 1993 - 1995. He was re-deployed to Head the Circulation Unit from 1995 - 1997 and later to Reserve Stock Collections from 1998 - January 2004, both in the Reader's Services Division of the Library. Having obtained over a decade of practical experience in Librarianship and Information Management, in a bid to extend the frontiers of knowledge and learning coupled with his flair for teaching and research, picked up a fresh appointment as as Assistant Lecturer in February 2004 at the Department of Library and Information Science in same university . He rose to the rank of an Associate Professor in 2020. He went on Leave of Absence from the university from 2016 - 2021 upon his appointment by the Delta State Government as a Polytechnic Librarian at the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu. Basil is a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Preservation and Conservation Section (PCS) of the NLA, Society of Nigerian Archivists (SNA), the National Association of Library and Information Science Educators (NALISE) and Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T). He was Chairman, Delta State Chapter of the NLA, National Council member of the Association from 2012 - 2016 and the National Secretary of the PCS from 2011 - 2018. Basil served as the Internal Auditor and Welfare Secretary of ASUU - DELSU from 2010 - 2011 and 2013 - 2016 respectively. Dr. Iwhiwhu holds a B. Sc. (Ed) Honours Degree in Chemistry from Bendel State University, Ekpoma, 1991; Diploma Certificate in Computer Science (MIS), 1998; a Master and Ph. D Degrees in Library, Archival and Information Studies in 1999 and 2013 respectively from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan and a Postgraduate Diploma in Shipping and Ports Management at The Certified institute of Shipping, Nigeria in 2019. He has several scholarly articles published in reputable national and international learned journals. His research interest is in the area of Records and Information Management, Knowledge Management, Preservation and Conservation of Information Resources, ICT Application to Library and Information Management, Archives Administration and Library Automation. He is also interested in Cataloguing and Classification of information Resources. He has several graduates at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels that passed through his tutelage. Basil has also received several Awards as a result of his commitment to duty and result-oriented approach to responsibilities at his disposal. He is Married to Margaret Oghenovo Basil-Iwhiwhu, a Director at the Post Primary Education Board, Asaba and the union is blessed with children.
