  • Department of Animal and Environmental Biology

  • Dr. Ed.’ Edwin Ito is a distinguished academic and researcher in Environmental and Public Health Parasitology, currently serving as a Lecturer II in the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Science, Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental/Public Health Parasitology from the University of Port Harcourt, a Master of Science degree (Distinction) in Zoology (Pest and Disease Management), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Delta State University, Abraka. With over a decade of teaching and research experience, Dr. Ito has established himself as a leading scholar in parasitology, vector ecology, schistosomiasis epidemiology, and the bio-ecological impacts of anthropogenic activities in freshwater ecosystems. His research interests focus on the geospatial profiling of disease vectors, transmission dynamics of schistosomiasis, eco-toxicological assessments of aquatic systems, and the ethnobotanical application of indigenous plant species for vector and pest control. Dr. Ito has authored and co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles indexed in SCOPUS, DOAJ, AJOL, SJR, and Index Copernicus, contributing significantly to the global knowledge base on tropical parasitic infections and environmental health. His works such as “Multivariate Approach to Risk Factors Profiling of Urinary Schistosomiasis” and “Spatiotemporal and Seasonal Transmission Dynamics of Schistosoma haematobium” have provided critical insights into disease epidemiology and public health intervention strategies in the Niger Delta region. He is a regular contributor at academic and scientific conferences, having presented over 25 conference papers at prestigious national fora such as the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN), Zoological Society of Nigeria (ZSN), and the Freshwater Biological Association of Nigeria (FBAN). His work has been instrumental in shaping current understanding of parasite-host-vector interactions, community-based disease control measures, and freshwater ecosystem health in Nigeria. Dr. Ito’s long-term academic vision is to drive interdisciplinary research that bridges parasitology, environmental science, and public health in developing evidence-based interventions for disease control and ecosystem sustainability in tropical environments. His unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement continues to position him as a formidable force in the Nigerian scientific landscape.
