  • Chioma Cynthia Ojianwuna obtained her B.Sc. in Zoology (First Class Honors) from Delta State University, Abraka, and Delta State, Nigeria and she received the Vice Chancellor’s Award as the Best Graduating Student of the University in 2003/2004 Academic Session. She also obtained her M.Sc in Zoology (Entomology Option) with a Distinction from the same University. She obtained her Ph.D. in Entomology, from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma Edo State, Nigeria. Dr Ojianwuna is an Associate Professor and was the Ag. Head of Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria from April 1st 2020 to March 31st 2025- . Her research interest is focused on insects and their services to humanity ( positive and negative impacts of insects on man and his environment). Based on these, she and her research team are preparing a gene bank for important species of butterflies and plants in Nigeria through the assistance of GGBN (Global Genome Biodiversity Network). She also obtained a grant for a short course in DEST (Distributed European School of Taxonomy) Florence, Italy 2013 for Entomological Research in Protected Areas. She also received a grant as the Principal Investigator on Entomology and Surveillance activities of the Global fund new fund model Malaria Grant for Delta State in Nigeria from 2020 till date and has established an Entomological Sentinel site in Delta State. In 2024, she worked on a Field trial of Livful (20% IR3535®) mosquito repellent lotion, for malaria Vector Control in Nigeria ,Sponsored by Livful Inc Georgia USA coordinated by NMEP. She was a member of the task team for the development of Curriculum for Entomological Surveillance Activities for NMEP( National Malaria Elimination Programme). She has also participated in the rolling coverage for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) (Onchocerciasis and Filariasis) in Isoko North L.G.A and full coverage survey on Schistosomiasis and Soil Transmitted Helminths in Ughelli South L.G.A of Delta State respectively in 2021. She has also been trained by ADAPTI (Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institution) on the use of SPSS in 2018. She participated in a hands-on training workshop on Capacity building in Molecular Marker Applications and Bioinformatics for Young Scientists in Biodiversity Research in Abuja ,2015. She was a beneficiary of ETF 2011 AST & D Local Training for Academic Staff and First Class Graduate Scholarship by Delta State Government . She has articles in Scopus Indexed International, National and Local journals. She is one of the board members of Nigerian Journal of Science and Environment, a journal published by the Faculty of Science, Delta State University, Abraka. She is a member, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), Zoological Society of Nigeria, Entomological Society of Nigeria, International Society for Plant Protection and International Council of Museums. She has also handled responsibilities in the University such as; Member, TETFund Conference / workshop committee; Member, Committee for New Programme for Biotechnology, Faculty of Science, Delta State University, Abraka 2020. Member, Organizing Committee, Faculty of Science International Conference (FOSIC, 2019&2023), Member, Convocation Committee, Member Organizing committee of Maiden summit in Women in Leadership and Development by the Centre for Gender and Development Studies, Delta State University, Abraka 2021, Member Committee on Development of Gender policy document and Faculty of Science Representative in Directorate of Gender& Developmental Studies.
