Area of Specialization: Process Chemistry/Petrochemistry
Department of Chemistry
Charles Otobrise obtained a Ph.D. in Process Chemistry from The University of Port-Harcout, Nigeria in 2016. He also holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Petroleum Chimistry and Petrochemicals from the same institution in 2010. He obtained his B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from the Delta State University, Abraka in 2004. He is a member of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) and also of the Institute of Chattered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON). Studies in Process Chemistry and Petro chemistry have been my major preoccupation. My current research interests include thermodynamic modeling, property estimation and prediction. Group Contribution Methods (GCMs) have been developed and used to predict pure component properties of a wide range of organic compounds that are not feasible with laboratory experiments, due to the thermally labile nature of the compounds. Data generated by these GCMs have a variety of applications in chemical engineering, process design, optimization of processing plants, synthesis of process products and computer-aided designs. Characterization and assessment of properties of petroleum fractions have also been carried out.
