  • Area of Specialization: 1. Analytical Methods and Expert system Development. 2. Environmental Management and Pollution Studies.
  • Department of Chemistry

  • I am a Professor of Analytical/Environmental Chemistry of the Delta State University, Abraka. I am a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Biochemistry graduate from the University of Benin, Benin City, with a Masters of Science (M.Sc) degree in Analytical Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) of the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), Manchester, United Kingdom. I was a Federal Government of Nigeria Scholar, 1980-1982 for my M.Sc degree Programme and 1983-1985 for the Ph.D degree. I have sixty-four (64) scholarly publications including a Chapter in a book. I have supervised students at the undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D levels. My University teaching and research career started at the Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University), Ekpoma where I rose to the position of Lecturer I before transferring to the Delta State University, Abraka. I was opportune to play pioneering roles as staff at the Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University), Ekpoma which I joined in 1982 and the Delta State University, Abraka, when it was established in 1992, also as a pioneer staff. My pioneering experiences at both University will be advantageous in the long run in the administration of a University, as Vice-Chancellor. I have at different times been, Head of Department, Sub-Dean of a Faculty, Director of Pre-Degree Programme, Director of External Degrees Programmes (Statelite Campuses), Member of Department and Faculty Boards, Member of the University Senate, Member of University Governing Council and Dean, Student Affairs. I have at one time or the other served as External Assessor and External Examiner to different Universities. I was also opportune to be the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of a Tertiary Institution- Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe, Delta State. It is worthy of note that I was an interviewee for the post of Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education: shortlisted, interviewed and named among the best three candidates for appointment by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2010. I was the Chairman of the Committee on the Fact-Finding Visit to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, in March, 2012 (Constituted by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Chairman of the Visitation Panel to the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, in March, 2012 and a member of the Technical Committee on Post-Flood Disaster Management for Delta State Government in October, 2012. Another experience that will positively influence my administration of a University is my erstwhile membership of the Planning and Implementation Committees for Western Delta University (WDU) Oghara, and the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) and Member of a Consulting Team for the Academic Brief of Nigerian Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, Delta State. I am an active Member of Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Institute of Chattered Chemists of Nigeria. As an active member of my professional bodies I was honoured with Fellow, Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN) and Fellow, Institute of Chattered Chemists of Nigeria, FICCON. I had served as National Assistant Secretary (West) and presently the National Deputy Vice-President, South South of the Society. In the area of Community Service, I was one time appointed a Board Member of the National Youth Service Corps, by the Federal Government of Nigeria and honoured with Justice of the Peace (JP) by the Delta State Government. Also in recognition of my activities and contribution to my communities, I was conferred with Chieftaincy Titles by the Traditional Ruler (Kings) of Agbarho and Ogor Kingdoms, both in Delta State. Recently, I and my team of researchers at the Delta State University, Abraka, won two TETFUND research grants: one as the Team Leader and the other as a member of the Team. I was born on 16th November, 1955, an Urhobo from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State and married with four children- two males and two females. I recently completed my one year Sabbatical leave at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State. My qualifications, experiences at pioneering the establishments of Universities, my satisfactory performances in the various positions I have held, being able to handle students, as Dean of students Affairs, the fact that I was able to manage a Tertiary Institution successfully, and the recognition by my communities, the Delta State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria are testimonies of my intellectual and managerial abilities.
