Mangrove Conservation: London-Based Environmental Investment Firm, Serendib, Signs MoU With DELSU

The partnership borne out of the importance of protecting and preserving the mangrove ecosystems in Nigeria and acknowledging the significant ecological, economic, and social benefits these ecosystems provide, aims to establish a state-of-the-art environmental laboratory at DELSU for the purpose of conducting soil sampling tests and analyses related to mangrove soil carbon, seagrass and biochar.

This laboratory will focus on soil sampling and analyses in support of mangrove conservation efforts, in alignment with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) objectives.

While the investment firm will provide the necessary funding and technical expertise for the establishment of the laboratory at DELSU, the institution will provide the space, infrastructure, and administrative support for the laboratory.

DELSU partners agencies to develop aquafeed

Prof Egwunyenga promised that the University will wholeheartedly implement the forthcoming NUC policy paper seeking to harmonize the operations of CRIP, CES and SIWES in order to boost the quality of her graduates.

 

 

Delta State University, Abraka, collaboration with Serendib Capital, UK on Mangrove Restoration and Conservation Project

On July 30, 2024, Serendib Capital Limited (SC), a London-based environmental investment business, and Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), formalized her collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the commission of Serendib Capital Headquarters in Effurun, Delta State. This partnership aims to establish a state-of-the-art laboratory at DELSU for conducting soil sampling tests and analyses related to mangrove soil carbon, seagrass, and biochar, thereby supporting mangrove conservation efforts in alignment with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) objectives. The laboratory will adhere to international standards in environmental testing, and both parties will jointly develop research projects focused on mangrove ecosystem conservation. 

This MoU represents a significant step towards environmental stewardship and academic excellence, fostering a sustainable future for Nigeria's mangrove ecosystems.
