Arising from the stark reality of unemployment rate amongst Nigerian graduates,
as well as slow industrial growth, due to lack of sustainable economic practices
based on innovative, creative and value added products and services development,
the National Universities Commission (NUC) introduced entrepreneurship training
as a prerequisite to the award of degrees in Nigerian universities. In
compliance with the NUC’s Minimum Benchmark, the Delta State University
established the Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies in 2013. Over the years, the
Centre has grown and to a large extent can boast of a highly equipped permanent
training Centre (Courtesy of TETFund and internally Generated Revenue, IGR) in
Abraka main campus as well as moderate spaces and furnishing in the Oleh campus.
Through these available facilities, the Centre has conscientiously and
sustainably interpreted NUC’s policy on Entrepreneurship training as a
compulsory course in student’s curriculum at the 200 and 300 levels (CES 211,
Valued Addition and Enterprise Creation and CES 311, Skill Acquisition).
