About Us

Welcome to Centre for for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution

The Centre for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution and Development (CSPCRD) was established in 2019 as a Directorate of the Delta State University, Abraka. CSPCRD is a bold initiative by the Delta State University, Abraka to revive and sustain the research culture in the University system. It is already common knowledge that little or no research activity is going on in our universities as a result of long years of under-funding and the consequent agitations, in the form of strikes by university lecturers. It is also true that the conventional university academic Departments and Faculties have since ceased to provide effective platforms for organising any meaningful research work. Thus, extra departmental structures in the form of research Centres or Institutes have become the new planks for the rebirth of purposeful work. It is against this background that the Centre for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution (CSPCR) was established. CSPCR meets this need by conducting researches that provide evidence-based information towards addressing the problem of conflict in the Niger- Delta, Nigeria, Africa and beyond. In consideration of the need to proffer Intellectual responses to contemporary security issues that are threating the fabrics of national, regional and global integration, the Centre has been registered as Centre for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution (CSPCR) with effect from April, 2022.

In other words, the Center for Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution (CSPCR) is envisioned as a vital institution within Delta State University Abraka. Its primary objective is to contribute to peacebuilding, conflict management, and security enhancement within the university community and beyond. By fostering dialogue, research, and practical interventions, the CSPCR aims to create a safer and more harmonious environment.

The motivation behind establishing the Centre for Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution at Delta State University was to address the pressing need for promoting peace, conflict prevention, management, and resolution within the university and the broader community. In an increasingly world of insecurity, with panicky global convulsion, the CSPCR aims to become a leading hub for research, education, and community engagement in security, peace, and conflict resolution, contributing to the development of strategies and interventions that foster peace and security in the region.

Motto: Fostering Peace, Ensuring Security, Resolving Conflict

The motto "Fostering Peace, Ensuring Security, Resolving Conflict" is an excellent choice for the Centre for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution at Delta State University, Abraka. Together, "Fostering Peace, Ensuring Security, Resolving Conflict" creates a comprehensive and powerful statement of purpose for the center as it covers the three main aspects of the center's work - peace, security, and conflict resolution - showing a comprehensive approach to these interconnected issues. It has an Alignment with Academic Goals: It reflects the academic nature of the center, suggesting a focus on research, education, and practical application in these critical areas.
