The Delta State University, Abraka - popularly known as DELSU, is a State government university with a main campus located at Abraka, Delta and a campus at Anwai, Asaba. With the 1995 Amended Edict, we now have a campus at Oleh. The University runs a multi-campus system with three campuses within a distance of about 200 km apart. Currently, with a student population of about 36,000 (in the 2007/08 session), the University offers a range of programmes from the full-time certificate, diploma and degree programmes to part-time evening and weekend degree programmes. The University offers post-graduate studies up to a doctoral level. A staff/student counselling centre, an e-learning centre, student accommodation and sporting facilities amidst others are available support services.. It is one of twenty-five federal universities which are overseen and accredited by the National Universities Commission.

Delta State University, Abraka has been historically recorded as a Centre of Education. It started as a Government Teachers’ Training College during the colonial era and some years into the post-colonial era. It became a College of Education that awarded Nigerian Certificate of Education (N.C.E.) from 1971-1985. In 1981, it was affiliated to the University of Benin, Benin City and consequently offered degree programmes from 1981 till 1985 when it became the Faculty of Education of the then Bendel State University with its main campus at Ekpoma. The creation of Edo and Delta States in August 1991 and the conversion of the main campus of the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma to become Edo State University in December 1991, necessitated the establishment of an autonomous Delta State University, Abraka on 30th April, 1992 by the then Executive Governor of the State, Olorogun Felix Ibru.

STUDENTS BE MINDFUL OF FRAUDSTERS: In another development, rumours have it that some fraudsters are within the University community and its environs requesting students to come for re-registration of their courses online and do some payments too. For the benefit of doubt, no students should part with any money to these fraudsters as such re-registration is fraud and illegal. Students are free to visit the Public Relations Unit or the ICT for any enquiry. The official line for ICT is 09066378888. So, students are at liberty to call this line at any given time. FALSE AND MALICIOUS PUBLICATION BY INTREGRITY WATCHDOG.COM AGAINST THE VICE-CHANCELLOR AND MANAGEMENT OF DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY, ABRAKA PUBLISHED ON THE 24TH OF AUGUST 2016. The attention of the Management of Delta State University, Abraka, has been drawn to a publication in respect of the above subject matter dated 24th August, 2016. Further to a careful consideration of the issues raised in the said Publication, the University management observed that; The said arrears were computed in 2013 when the Present Vice-Chancellor, Professor Victor F. Peretomode, was not the Vice-Chancellor. That payment made was not fraudulent. There was no distortion or connivance between the Vice-Chancellor and any organ of the University in the Payment Process. As a tradition, whenever payments are made and a staff observed an apparent wrong computation of his entitlements, such a staff is required to write to the Bursary for verification and necessary action. It is so in every organization. Since the said arrears were paid in July 2015 no staff has complained of a shortfall in his entitlement. Management is also aware that the said Publication is the handiwork of some disgruntled staff who were dismissed for gross misconduct involving sexual harassment, extortion of money from Students, alteration of examination scores, trading in examination scores, absconding from duty post, insubordination, among others. It should be noted that this on-line publisher – has become notorious as it is in the habit of publishing falsehood without verification.
